![]() How do I install Microsoft pdf printer drivers?.How do I add print to PDF in Windows 7?.How do I install a Nitro PDF in Windows 7?.So there must be some registry problem or local services setting or similar that is responsible for all of these diverse programs failure to install. The same thing happened in a couple other applications. I also tested a sample document in Notepad, choosing the Print to PDF printer, but the Apply button remained grayed out and I could not access the printer. I said Yes, and on the surface it installed okay, but testing for properties again gave the same result. Then when I try to use it, if I click on the icon in the Devices and Printers page, I get a message that the printer driver was not installed and would I like to add it. Anyhow, I added a printer according to directions, choosing FILE for the local port and choosing the Print to PDF selection under Microsoft. I was able to get it back by going to optional features and retrieving it (I must have deleted it at some time in the past without realizing it). Incidentally, I am able to create PDF files from WordPerfect and Microsoft Word without any trouble as well as other programs where the PDF conversion is part of the application and not accessed through a virtual printer choice.Ĭlick to expand.I switched to Windows 10 to access this and found it was missing from the devices and printers page and also from the list of printers under Microsoft. This make me think that on my desktop there may be a bios setting that is affecting both Windows 7 and Windows 10 applications. On the laptop, the PDF printer application worked perfectly. The laptop is also a dual-boot machine and I loaded the program in both Windows 7 and Windows 10. The strange part of all of this is that I have a laptop in which I loaded Ancestral Quest. I repeated all of this in Windows 10, including also Ghostscript Printer. PDF Creator carried through to the end but after getting a message that it had loaded successfully, I was not able to access it as a printer - not showing up in printer choices, checking printer properties, etc. ![]() They all install to varying degrees, some installations ending with an error "5", another with an error "1797", or simply saying they cannot load. Going on from there at the suggestion of the Ancestral Quest support people, I tried loading a variety of other PDF printers into Windows 7, namely: CutePDF, doPDF, PDF Creator, and PrimoPdf. I have tried both alternatives without success. I get a message that a printer driver is already present and asking whether to retain the old or change to new. I then tried to Add a printer, deleting the old printer and manually adding a local printer to the same port as previously used and using the Tracker Software information to install. ![]() But when I check for Printer Properties again, I get the same result. It then offers to install and terminates without any error message. The program does not access this virtual printer and when I check the printer in "Devices and Printers" looking for Printer Properties it informs me that the printer drive is not installed. I recently tried to install Ancestry Quest which includes PDF-XChange-3 as a PDF printer. I am running Windows 7 Pro (32 bit) and Windows 10 (same) in a dual-boot setup with Intel G3220 CPU, 8 GB Ram and Gigabyte motherboard.
